Venus Williams could be in for a tough match against Andrea Petkovic on Friday
Venus Williams has barely played any tennis since losing in the US Open semi final to Kim Clijsters, but she has started well at the Australian and was impressive in coming from a set down against Sandra Zahlavova in the second round. Her next opponent in Mebourne is 30th seed Andrea Petkovic, who came through three sets against British qualifier Anne Keothovang in her last match.
The German is a tough match-up for Venus, as she comes into the Australian Open on the back of a good run in Sydney and the 23-year-old is definitely one of the upwardly mobile players on the WTA Tour. She has, however, never played against Venus Williams and that could prove crucial, as even if Venus isn’t at her best, or fittest, her reputation often intimidates opponents.
The bookmakers are split on who will win on Friday, with
Bet365 offering 1.83 for both players. It could well be one to watch, then bet in play, depending on how well Petkovic deals with the occasion.
