Marcos Baghdatis is set to get a lot of support during this year’s Australian Open, with the Cypriot likely to be a huge draw in Melbourne, amongst those who remember the 25-year-old bursting onto the tennis scene with an appearance in the final in Australia in 2005.

Baghdatis lost in four sets to Roger Federer that year and since then he has struggled to reach those heights, but he returned to the top 20 in 2010 and much is expected of the Cypriot this year.

He begins his Australian Open campaign against Grega Zemlja of Slovakia on Tuesday and anything other than a straight sets win for Baghdatis, over a player ranked more than 120 places below him, would be a big surprise.
