Andy Roddick missed a lot of last season due to illness and injury, but the American has come back fitter and stronger and judging by his opening two performances in Melbourne, he has to be considered an outsider for the Australian Open title.

His opponent in the third round is Dutchman Robin Haase, who was impressive in beating Argentine Juan Monaco on Wednesday, but may find life difficult against the number eight seed, who plays a similar, big serving game to the 23-year-old.

In the last two months, Haase has played top 20 players on three occasions and he has lost all three, to Novak Djokovic, John Isner and Stanislas Wawrinka. He took a set from the latter two and may be good enough to sneak one against Roddick on Friday, with a 3-1 win for the American available at 3.75 with Sky Bet.
