The 2013 Australian Open tournament kicks off on Monday January 14th and runs until Sunday 27th January.
The questions we ask ourselves are, can Djokovic win title number four down under? Can Nadal hit back and finally win that second Australian Open title or will Murray finally convert those years of promise into lifting that coveted trophy?
We saw some of the greatest matches of all time in 2012. Djokovic and Nadal's record-breaking final, lasted nearly six hours and may in future be hailed as the greatest match ever. However records are there to be broken and the Australian Open always plays host to high drama.
The 2012 Australian Open was a credit to both organisers and players, as defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic played out an epic battle against Rafael Nadal in the prestigious Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park!
The Australian Open 2012 final went down in history as the longest Grand Slam final in the Open era with Novak Djokovic from Serbia lifting the Melbourne trophy for the third time in his tennis career.
Runner up Rafael Nadal, Swiss veteran and four-time winner Roger Federer as well as British Andy Murray who lost both finals in 2010 and 2011, will be united in their quest to make sure Djokovic does not win the Australian Open three times in a row.
In the women's event, Victoria Azarenka went to world number one after securing a swift 6-3, 6-0 win against Russia's Maria Sharapova. On her way to the final, she beat Watson, Dellacqua, Barthel, Benesova and Radwanska to face her toughest encounter against Kim Clijsters in the semi-final which she won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek won the men’s doubles title at the 2012 edition of the Australian Open while Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva will come into the 2013 Australian Open as defending champions in the women’s doubles championship.
