Wednesday 26.1.2011 Order of Play - Australian Open 2011

Wednesday's Australian Open schedule looks set to provide us with yet another exciting day of tennis

The first match in the mens singles draw will be between Andy Murray and Alexandr Dolgopolov. Murray has made steady progress so far, and is still in contention to win his first Slam title. Murray has thrashed everyone that he's had to face, including No. 11 seed Jurgen Melzer in round four. Dolgopolov hasn't had such a straightforward route through, and has twice been pushed into five-setters. Even so, his longer matches were against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Robin Soderling respectively. Wins against either of those players do not come easily. This could develop into a fascinating quarterfinal.

Next up will be a contest between Rafael Nadal and fellow countryman David Ferrer. Nadal remains on course for the Rafa Slam, and seems to have fully recovered from the illness that troubled him in Doha and the earlier rounds here. Illness or no illness, Nadal is yet to drop a set in Melbourne, and is living up to his billing as tournament favourite. Ferrer escaped from a difficult match with Milos Raonic in round four, winning in four sets. He's produced some very good tennis this week, though most pundits are expecting his run to end on Wednesday.

In the womens singles draw, play will start with Vera Zvonareva up against Petra Kvitova. Zvonareva is just two wins away from a third successive Slam final, and appears to be in good form. She's one of a handful of players that hasn't lost a set so far, though she's yet to face anyone ranked within the top thirty. No. 25 seed Petra Kvitova has faced tougher opposition on her way to the quarters, but will enter the match as the underdog. Her wins against No. 5 seed Samantha Stosur and No. 22 seed Flavia Pennetta should serve as a warning to Zvonareva. This could be a real nail-biter.

In the second womens quarterfinal match Agnieszka Radwanska will meet Kim Clijsters. Clijsters has gotten through every match so far in two sets, and looks like a major contender to win this competition. That said, she's yet to come up against a seeded opponent here, and will have to be on her guard against Radwanska. Radwanska has twice been forced into three sets in this tournament, and is also yet to face a seeded opponent. The form book suggests that Clijsters will win this one, though Radwanska has already proven that she's got plenty of fighting spirit, and shouldn't be written off.
