Two-time Slam runner-up Vera Zvonareva will meet Iveta Benesova in a crucial fourth round contest

Vera Zvonareva looks destined for yet another solid run at a major event, as she stands just four wins away from a maiden Slam title. Zvonareva, a runner-up at Wimbledon and the U.S Open last season, has beaten all comers so far, and will now face Iveta Benesova in the fourth round.

The Russian has a 3-1 head to head record against Benesova, and enters this match as the favourite. This pairing last met in the second round here last year, with Zvonareva claiming a comfortable 6-0, 6-3 victory. Benesova might be able to produce a better performance this time around though. This will be her first appearance in the fourth round of a slam, and she appears to be playing with plenty of confidence.

The Czech left-hander caused a stir in the third round by beating No. 16 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, but is likely to run into trouble on Monday. Zvonareva’s recent outings in Slam events have been superb, and Benesova will need to dig deep to upset the odds. The winner of this match will face either Petra Kvitova or Flavia Pennetta in the quarterfinals.
