Top 10: Fed's feats and streaks

Roger Federer’s career is a statistics smorgasbord.

The Swiss master has notched many of his glittering milestones in Australia. Here’s a top 10 of Federer AO feats and streaks.

1. 1000 of the best. Federer’s 1000th career match was an emphatic  6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win over Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarterfinals on Monday.

2. Sweet 16. Australian Open 2010 was Roger’s last Grand Slam title, extending his record major haul to 16.

3. No.1 AO match winner. Going into his blockbuster semifinal against Rafa Nadal on 63 wins, Federer is the leading match winner in the history of the tournament. He overtook Stefan Edberg’s mark in the third round last year.

4. RLA reign. Federer has played 59 straight matches in Rod Laver Arena, stretching back to the second round in 2004. The streak was set to end last week, before Andreas Beck withdrew from their second-round clash in Hisense Arena.

5. High five. Federer is the only man to play five finals at Melbourne Park, in 2004/06/07/09/10.

6. 07 Sweep. Australian Open 2007 is the only one of his 16 majors Federer has swept without conceding a set.

7. Slamming grandly. A sixth Australian Open final on Sunday would see Federer top Jimmy Connors for the most Grand Slam tournament match wins (233). The combative Jimbo played until age 40; Federer is a sprite of 30.

8. Top 10. Federer’s record 10 straight Grand Slam final appearances, from 2005 Wimbledon to the 2007 US Open, came to an end at AO2008, against eventual winner Novak Djokovic in the semis.

9. Rafa-Roger, round 10. Thursday’s semifinal is the 10th Grand Slam showdown between storied rivals Federer and Nadal. The Spaniard won their only previous AO clash, in the 2009 final.

10. Federer in front. After winning the first set at Melbourne Park, Federer is an awesome 57-1. The only loss came to eventual champion Marat Safin in a classic 9-7-in-the-fifth semifinal back in 2005.
