Seventh seed Tomas Berdych has sent 10th seed Nicolas Almagro packing with a 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 win at Hisense Arena on Sunday.
The big-serving Czech conceded the first set in 45 minutes, but went on to win by claiming three consecutive tiebreaks in three sets that each exceeded an hour in length.
There were only three breaks of serve in the match, with the Spaniard claiming two of those.
Berdych sent down an impressive 70 winners and 28 aces, while both players made 41 unforced errors.
He now faces another Spaniard in the quarterfinals - world No.2 Rafael Nadal.
