Australian Open - Robin Soderling v Potito Starace live stream preview

Robin Soderling will begin his charge for the Australian Open title with a first round contest against Potito Starace

Robin Soderling has never really made much of an impression at the Australian Open, though this year it seems like he has a real chance to make a name for himself. Another superb season for the Swede in 2010 elevated him into the top five, and his success at the ATP Brisbane Open means that he is now ranked fourth in the world. It appears likely that he will go beyond his previous best at the Australian Open and progress past the round of 64.

He faces a tricky match in the first round against Potito Starace, the World No. 47. The pairing have a 1-1 head to head record, with both matches having been played on clay courts. Starace certainly has the capacity to trouble the Swede, though Soderling will enter this match as the favourite.

If Soderling can prevail in this match, he will have a fantastic opportunity to pick up some rankings points in this tournament. If he can continue his recent run of form, there’s every chance that he’ll feature in the latter stages next week. Despite this, Soderling’s past appearances in Melbourne have been far from spectacular, and it’s a little too early to start talking up his chances just yet.
