Slam event to date, and he may well be out of his depth on Thursday.
Nadal showed no signs of illness against Daniel earlier in the week, and is unlikely to stumble here. The 2009 champion is steadily edging getting closer to making history, and there’s very little chance of a player ranked outside of the top hundred standing in his way. Sweeting may well be a hard court specialist, but Nadal is a former Australian Open, and one of the best players to ever grace the sport.
It should be noted that Nadal, even when ill, still managed to win the doubles title in Doha. He also defeated Ernests Gulbis, one of the better players on the tour, in straight sets. Nadal has a fantastic opportunity to enter the record books yet again, and it will be a huge surprise if he doesn’t make it to the latter stages of next week at least.
