Rafael Nadal v Marin Cilic – Australian Open live stream - watch now

Rafael Nadal faces a potentially tough match against Marin Cilic in round four of the Australian Open

Rafael Nadal managed to see off the challenge of Aussie youngster Bernard Tomic in round three, and will now face Marin Cilic on Monday for a place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Nadal is only four straight victories away from achieving the Rafa Slam, and few are expecting Cilic to stop him in his tracks here. Even so, the Croat is one of the best players on the tour, and this match might not be a straightforward one for the Spaniard.

Intriguingly, Cilic leads his head to head with Nadal 1-0. The pairing’s sole match was played on a hard court in Beijing in 2009. Cilic won the match 6-1, 6-3, in a convincing manner. Given what we know about Rafael Nadal, it might not be too wise to read much into this. The World No. 1 enters this match as the favourite, regardless of the 2009 matchup.

Cilic has been in very good form, but may be a little fatigued after his lengthy encounter with John Isner in round three. Having gone two sets to one down, Cilic fought back to clinch a 4-6, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6, 9-7 victory. Nadal, on the other hand, is yet to drop a set, and should be the fresher of the two players.
