Rafael Nadal produced yet another superb performance to defeat Marin
Cilic in straight sets in the fourth round of the Australian OpenRafael Nadal stepped even closer to winning the Rafa Slam with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 15 seed Marin Cilic. He now needs just three wins here in Melbourne to hold all four of the Slams. Prior to the tournament there was much said about Nadal’s recent illness, though he appears to be his usual self on the court once again. He’s yet to drop a set here, and could very well go on to make history this week.
Following his match with Cilic, Nadal stated, “I’m not sweating so much…the other days I was sweating like crazy, so today was the first day I really felt perfect physically, so that’s the most important thing”. Nadal has some huge matches ahead of him, including a quarterfinal match against David Ferrer, so he’ll be relieved to be fully fit.
If Nadal progresses on Wednesday against Ferrer, he will face No. 5 seed Andy Murray or Ukranian youngster Alexandr Dolgopolov in the semi’s. A further win would set up a showdown for the Rafa Slam with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych, or Stanislas Wawrinka. With so many great players still in the competition, it looks like we’re going to be treated to an incredibly memorable week of tennis.
