Murray chances hurt by Soderling victory

Andy Murray has slipped to number five in the world Rankings, and this might make his Australian Open challenge even tougher

Following Robin Soderling’s triumph at the Brisbane international on Sunday, Andy Murray has dropped to number five in the World rankings. This means that he now potentially faces a more difficult draw in the Australian Open.

As Murray will be seeded fifth for the tournament, there’s a chance that he’ll face the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in one of the earlier rounds, and this could seriously threaten his bid for a first Slam title.

Even so, Murray has proven himself capable of beating the World’s best on several occasions, so it’s not all doom and gloom for the Scotsman. If he can play his best tennis, then he still has a chance in Melbourne. After all, he was the runner-up last year.
