Murray aiming for his first Slam title

Andy Murray is just one win away from winning the first Slam title of his career

Andy Murray will be hoping that it’s third time lucky as he prepares for yet another Slam final. The Scot is on the verge of a maiden Slam title, and he’ll be aiming to get the better of his friend Novak Djokovic. The pairing have a 4-3 head to head record in Djokovic’s favour, though Murray has won the last three of these matches. More significantly, the victories have all been in straight sets on hard courts.

Murray has been in a Slam final twice before, but lost to Roger Federer on both occasions. Speaking of the two defeats, Murray said, “It was tough for me, but something that I think overall would have made me a better player, stronger mentally…you know they’re all experiences that you need to deal with playing at the highest level of sport. You know, you definitely lose some tough matches”.

Murray will now need to defeat a man who dismantled Federer in the last round. In a breathtaking performance, Djokovic managed to dominate the majority of his rallies with Federer, and showed almost no signs of vulnerability on serve, a problem that has plagued him over the years. The Serb will be a tough opponent for Murray, and has every chance of reclaiming the title that he held in 2008.

Djokovic and Murray train with each other on a fairly frequent basis, so Murray will perhaps know what to expect from the other side of the net. Speaking earlier in the week, Britain’s No. 1 remarked, “experience-wise we’re similar, although he won here a few years ago. We’re good friends and we practice a lot together so there wont be any secrets to our games. It’s going to be a brutal match I think”.
