Kim Clijsters faces the challenge of Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarterfinals of the Australian OpenKim Clijsters is a serious contender for this year’s Australian Open title, and she demonstrated her abilities once again in round four with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Ekaterina Makarova. Clijsters has gone through all four rounds without losing a set, and will enter her quarterfinal matchup against Agnieszka Radwanska as favourite to win.
Clijsters has been attracting a real following here in Melbourne. Her superb tennis has been one of the stories of the tournament so far. To add to this, her decision to publicly question Todd Woodbridge about a now infamous text message certainly won her some fans.
Radwanszka should not be completely overlooked here though. The No. 12 seed showed great fighting spirit against Shuai Peng in round four (7-5, 3-6, 7-6), and handed Simona Halep a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing in round three.
She last faced Clijsters in the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2006. Clijsters dominated and won the match 6-2, 6-2. Radwanska is one of the best players on the WTA Tour right now, but will need to put in an exceptional performance in order to level her head to head with the Belgian here.
