Grand Slam Oval builds 'Happy Slam' reputation

The Australian Open is already living up to its reputation as the ‘Happy Slam’ of world tennis with the bustling Grand Slam Oval proving a popular attraction to visitors.

Grand Slam Oval has been given a makeover from last year and it is bigger and better than ever before.

As the sounds of music, chatter and faint tennis commentary fill the air, there is something to suit everyone’s interests.

It is mate against mate in the popular MLC Fan Zone as it returns for another round of competitions and competitors willing to show off their skills. The Fan Zone gives everyone the opportunity to test out their tennis ability on mini tennis courts in a cooled indoor setting.

Of course Grand Slam Oval would not be complete without the Optus Speed Serve where fans have the chance to try to reach the speeds of fast-serving players like Andy Roddick and John Isner.

For those looking for that little bit of extra excitement then the Drumstick Walk of Water is the place to go.

The enclosure sees fans placed in giant plastic balls and plunged into a swimming pool.

The Heineken Beer garden is also brimming with excitement and activity. The garden is filled with umbrellas, chairs and tables, giving the area a relaxed pub- like atmosphere.

Live music plays in the background while the tennis is also shown on the big screen to add to the Grand Slam experience.

Nova 100 is broadcasting live throughout the week and the Heineken Live Stage is hosting  famous Australian acts from 6pm every evening for the entire tournament.

The iconic Jimmy Barnes will light up the stage on the final men’s final Sunday while fans will have the chance to sample other acts including Daryl Braithwaite and the Potbelleez.

For all the shopaholics attending the first Grand Slam tournament of the year an Australian Open shop and a Lacoste outlet are both located inside the oval and offer a range of clothes and memorabilia.

A giant marquee in the shape of a car is a major feature of the set up for Grand slam Oval. It plays the role of home of Kia Motors during the event.

Other booths to appear this year include ANZ World, Cadbury, Evian and Wilson marquees and the Coca- Cola Frozen zone.
