A dominant performance from Maria Sharapova has seen her safely through to the Australian third round after beating Jamie Hampton 6-0, 6-1 at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday.
The Russian was both powerful and consistent, hitting 23 winners and landing 77% of her first serves.
The first set was tighter than the scoreline appeared, with Hampton fighting hard to take a couple of games to deuce, but was unable to cope with the determined fourth seed.
Sharapova took 36 minutes to claim the first set and just 27 to take the second set to book her place in the next round.
More to come.
