Delic asks for crowd peace

- 21 Jan 2009

Amer Delic has asked his home country Bosnian fans not to disrupt his Australian Open 2009 third-round clash with defending champion Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Police and security were called when a group of Serbian fans entered the arena at the end of a Serbian player's match on another court and fans began taunting one another.

"We don't need to embarrass ourselves in front of the world," stated Delic.

In 2008 police were forced to pepper spray a small minority of Greek supporters. A match between Fernando Gonzalez and Greece's Konstantinos Economidis was halted for 10 minutes as police stepped in to stop "offensive chanting" and prevent further disruption.
