Laura Robson fell at the first hurdle in Melbourne, losing her opening round match to Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-0.
Young British hope Laura Robson's Australian Open ended on the opening day after she was comfortably beaten by former world number one Jelena Jankovic on Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne Park.
The 17-year-old was completely out-classed by her opponent and lost nine successive games before losing 6-2, 6-0 in a match that lasted just one hour and nine minutes.
The left-hander looked uncomfortable from when she first stepped onto Margaret Court Arena and the occasion seemed to get the better of the young Briton, who lost her serve in the opening game.
She did, however, have three chances to break back at 3-2 behind but, after losing them, the match was utterly dominated by Jankovic, who has never won a Grand Slam title but won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon when partnering Britain's Jamie Murray.
There was, unfortunately, to be no British success on Day One of the Australian Open with Elena Baltacha, Heather Watson, James Ward and Anne Keothavong also going out in round one.
