With many of the game's biggest names on show, Monday's Australian Open schedule should provide us with plenty excitementMonday's Australian Open schedule looks set to produce some incredible tennis, with many of the biggest names in action. Robin Soderling will begin proceedings with a match against plucky outsider Alexandr Dolgopolov. This will be followed by a contest between Jurgen Melzer and last year's runner-up Andy Murray.
Canadian youngster Milos Raonic will then face David Ferrer. No. 9 seed Ferrer will need to be prepared against Raonic, who currently leads the field as far as aces are concerned. Raonic has defied all expectations so far to reach this stage. The final match in the mens draw will be between Rafael Nadal and Marin Cilic. Cilic leads Nadal 1-0 in their head to head, though Nadal, on course for the 'Rafa Slam', will enter this contest as the favourite.
In the womens draw, Petra Kvitova faces Flavia Pennetta. Pennetta, who turned pro in 2000, has never previously reached this stage of the tournament and will be aiming to push on and make the most of her opportunity this year. This match will be followed by Iveta Benesova versus Vera Zvonareva. Benesova has played well so far, but will need to up her game against the World No. 2 to stand much of a chance of reaching the quarters.
An intriguing contest between Shuai Peng and Agnieszka Radwanska is next up. Radwanska demolished Simona Halep in round three, and will be searching for a similar performance against the unseeded Peng. In the final match, Kim Clijsters is up against Ekaterina Makarova. Clijsters is the favourite here, but needs to be wary of Makarova, who defeated No. 13 seed Nadia Petrova in the last round. Clijsters has an outside chance of reclaiming the No. 1 ranking spot if she can win this competition.
