Playing Serena Williams in Australia is like trying to scale Uluru blindfolded.

In another dominant performance for the four-time champion, Williams crushed the talented Czech Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-1 in just an hour and seven minutes, serving notice that it will take an extraordinary effort from the rest of field to take her trophy from her.
Playing with bandages on both legs, Williams played a fairly conservative yet clean second round contest, nailing 23 winners to 15 from her foe, and only committing 21 unforced errors to an unseeingly 34 from Kvitova.
“I thought today was a little bit better than my match in my first round,” Serena said. “I felt like I was moving better and I had better energy. I felt like I could have actually played a lot better today. She was definitely taking it to me, though. That was really good for me to play a lady like her.”
The 28-year-old Williams continued to give a must-hear lecture as to how to negotiate the first week of a major. Serena has only lost before the third round of a Grand Slam in 41 tournaments, in her debut at the majors at Australian Open 1998 when she fell to sister Venus in the second round.
While the recently returned Belgians Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin have been the talk of the tournament, Williams still considers herself a force to be reckoned with.
“I feel like if I play well, I'm really tough to beat. I'm so happy to see Henin back and doing well. She's such a good player and a fighter. I think she brings just a totally different theme to the game. Obviously Kim is fun to have back on the tour, and her winning the US Open is awesome. I think it's great to have these ladies back.”
The left-hander Kvitova, who reached the fourth round of 2009 US Open, tried to take it straight to Williams, but couldn’t measure up on the backhand side, served poorly and never got a read of Serena’s vaunted first serve. Serena, who served eight aces in the match, won 31 of her 33 first serve points and broke Kvitova four times.
Serena will face Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round, the same woman who knocked her sister, Venus, out of the competition last year.
“She's really good,” Serena said. “She has so much talent. I know she took out Venus around this time last year. I would hate to see it become a habit for her, taking out a sister this time every year. So I have to be ready.”
