Tomas Berdych is up against Philipp Kohlschreiber in round two of the Australian Open

Tomas Berdych will meet Philipp Kohlschreiber on Wednesday for a place in the third round of the Australian Open. Berdych enjoyed his best season to date last year, and will be searching for a decent run in this year’s Australian Open. Berdych has never made it past the last sixteen here, though this time around he’s one of the top seeds, and might be able to make an impression.

Berdych finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon last year, though he seemed to run out of steam a little towards the end of the season. He began 2011 fairly well, reaching the semi’s in Chennai before being handed a straight sets defeat by Stanislas Wawrinka.

Berdych has been known to get the better of Kohlschreiber, though the German won the last meeting between the pair (7-6, 6-7, 6-4). Berdych leads their overall head to head 4-1, and holds a 2-1 advantage on hard courts. Berdych will enter this match as the favourite, and should be looking to win this one within four sets at least. Even so, Kohlschreiber has the ability to test the Czech star, and this could be an intriguing contest.
