Australian Open - Lleyton Hewitt v David Nalbandian live stream preview

Lleyton Hewitt will face David Nalbandian in the first round of the Australian Open

Lleyton Hewitt is the only Australian player that stands much of a chance of representing the home nation in the latter stages in Melbourne, though he’s been handed a harsh draw for the first round. He will face David Nalbandian, the former World No. 3.

Both players have plenty of experience at the top level, and both are enjoying something of a resurgence at the moment. Hewitt beat highly regarded opposition to win the Kooyong Classic last week, whilst Nalbandian was the runner-up in the ATP Auckland Open. This looks like it could be a very memorable matchup, as either player could realistically still be in the draw next week if they can emerge victorious here.

Hewitt has a 3-2 head to head record against Nalbandian, though it was the Argentine who won their last two matches. Their most recent matchup was in Sydney (hard court) in 2009. The only other hard court match between the pairing occurred in the quarters of the Australian Open in 2005, which Hewitt won despite a dramatic Nalbandian fightback (6-3, 6-2, 1-6, 3-6, 10-8). Needless to say, Tuesday’s match is a hard one to call.
