Andy Roddick will meet Robin Haase on Friday in the third round of the Australian OpenAndy Roddick will be fairly pleased with his progress in Melbourne so far. He’s managed to get through the first two rounds of the Australian Open with minimal fuss, and is yet to drop a set. He faces Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the third round, in a match that he’ll be hoping to dominate.
Haase has exceeded expectations to reach this stage, recording a four-set win against Juan Monaco in round two. Prior to this tournament, he’d never made it through to the third round of a Slam event. Given Roddick’s experience at this level and on-court ability, the Dutchman will probably struggle on Friday. Even so, he’s a young player, and should have plenty of Slam tennis ahead of him.
These two players have never met before in official competition, making any pre-match predictions a little more complicated. Haase did manage to push John Isner, another big-serving American, into a lengthy three-setter (3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5) earlier in the month in Auckland. This hard-court performance suggests that Haase could be competitive on Friday, though Roddick, gunning for a Slam, should be able to progress unscathed.
