Caroline Wozniacki currently tops the WTA rankings, but a cursory glance at the odds on offer for her to win the 2012 Australian Open outright are no reflection of this. The Dane has so far failed to get within touching distance of one of the four slams during her lengthy reign as the world No. 1, and it doesn’t seem like too many people are backing her to break her slam title drought in Melbourne this year.

Victor Chandler are offering odds as long as 14/1 for Wozniacki to win this tournament, putting her fifth in the pecking order behind Petra Kvitova, Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Kim Clijsters respectively. Punters might feel that backing the field outside of the top four at odds of 10/1 (Blue Square) offers the best value.

Wozniacki can be backed at 7/1 to reach the final (Victor Chandler), which appears to be a relatively attractive price. She’ll have to defy some big names in order to make it to the last match of the women’s main draw, but she’s got an outside chance. At the age of just 21, Wozniacki hasn’t necessarily fulfilled her potential just yet, and this year’s Australian Open could mark a significant turning point in her career.
